International women’s soccer play is heating up as we are under a year away from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The USWNT announced they will take on the Spanish National Team in Pamplona, Spain on October 11th at El Sadar Stadium. This exciting matchup is in addition to their face-off with the England National Team on October 7th at the famous Wembley Stadium.
During the 2022 UEFA Women’s EURO Tournament, England knocked Spain out of the quarterfinals. The USWNT and Spain have come head to head three times before with a close-call win each time. Spain has already qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, so the USWNT is likely to play them again in the highest form of competition come this time next summer.

USWNT Head Coach, Vlatko Andonoviski said, “I know Spain fell short of their goals at the Euros, but they are a fantastic team, one of the best in the world, with world-class players all over the field and as a coaching staff, we are really looking forward to the challenges these two games will present for our team. Away matches against England and Spain are among the most difficult and high-profile friendlies a team can play and having those experiences will be valuable in many different ways for our continuing preparations for the World Cup.”
These highly competitive matchups are indeed exciting to watch, and they will surely give us a glance into what we will expect to see in the Women’s World Cup. Who else is excited to see these badass women take the field this fall?! We certainly are!
